Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils have jointly supported the production of a new pack of information and guidance on oral healthcare in care homes in response to the views of carers, residents, health and social care staff. The readable guide, was designed and written by local dental teams. It takes you through key steps for each new resident to prepare for their long term oral health. There is information about local dental services and other resources, plus templates you can photocopy to capture information on each resident and then monitor day to day activity of staff to achieve consistent levels of oral hygiene, no matter who is on shift. There are clinical illustrations of common disorders of the mouth. The pack is recommended as a training resource; training managers should ensure new staff become competent on day to day oral health at induction All Norfolk care homes will receive a hard copy of this pack from a trained member of a dental team. It will be hand-delivered between now and Easter, giving an opportunity for discussion.
