Brexit Medication Ordering Information
Message from the NHS Pharmacies and Medications Team
To All Norfolk Care Homes & Managers.
Important: Please pass the following message to your Care Teams and to your Area Managers where appropriate:
It has been brought to our attention via the CCGs that some Care Homes in the Norfolk area have requested a two month supply of medication from their GP practice due to Brexit.
The CCG have advised the GP practices not to fulfil this request as it is against national Brexit guidance, regarding medication supply, issued by NHS England.
The NHSE guidance clearly states that stockpiling is not encouraged as this could potentially lead to shortages of medications within the supply chain which otherwise would have been unaffected.
Extra medication stock is being held in warehouse, not individual pharmacies so it would also be difficult for the pharmacy to access large quantities of extra medications.
Pharmacies have also been specifically instructed by NHS England not to increase their stock levels and in doing so could lead to them being investigated.
Please could you refrain from asking for additional supplies at this time and to continue ordering as your normal cycle dictates. These requests will be monitored.
