Recognising signs of deterioration – free training for care homes
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, a series of free, one-day training sessions for residential care homes in Norfolk & Waveney around ‘recognising signs of deterioration’ were underway. After initially being postponed due to the pandemic, these have now been replaced with virtual training sessions, via Zoom.
Places are still available on the first session which takes place on Tuesday 21st July: 9:30-4:30 - with an hour’s lunch break from 12:30-1:30.
This session is for care staff (specific sessions for managers are taking place later in the year).
This training was being delivered in response to NHS Health Education England guidance encouraging care home staff to think ‘is my resident well?’ It will provide practical advice on:
- What to do if someone shows signs of being unwell or deterioration, such as:
- breathing & coughing
- nutrition & hydration
- bowel habits
- falls & mobility
- mood & wellbeing
- advance care planning
- how to escalate to get the right help at the right time
- how to prepare to call an NHS service when requesting medical help
